Your Checklist for the 3rd Annual Earth Day & Repair Fair

Your Checklist for the 3rd Annual Earth Day & Repair Fair

Posted by Sasha Stone on

This Sunday is our biggest Earth Day & Repair Fair yet! There's so much happening that we put together a little checklist to help you make the most of it. Grab your reusable bags and let's go!

What to Bring to the Market

  • Your own mug- Radical Coffee will be serving coffee based beverages, make it low-waste, bring something to drink from!
  • Tupperware & utensils- grab some delicious vegan food from Vengan Pa' Ka LLC without the waste.
  • T-shirt or tote bag- Dane County Waste and Renewables are ready to screen print your items with a sentiment that perfectly summarizes the day "waste is not waste until you waste it"
  • Electronics to recycle- our friends at DaneNet and Sage Sustainable Electronics are accepting:
    • Laptops, tablets, smartphones, smartwatches, e-readers
    • Gaming systems
    • Small peripherals (mice, keyboards, storage devices, adapters, cords)

💚 Bonus: Working or repairable electronics donated support local individuals and families through DaneNet's Digital Equity Project. Feel-good giving! Please factory reset devices before donating.

What to Bring to the Repair Café

Repair Cafes offer an alternative to throw-away culture and promote sustainability, waste reduction, and community building. Our Repair Café has skilled fixers on hand for:

  • Knife sharpening
  • Bike repair
  • Small appliances (toasters, lamps, coffee makers)
  • Electronics (radios, laptops)
  • Clothing, knitwear & linens
  • Small furniture
  • Small engines

Note: Bring items that need small repairs rather than items that are severely damaged so our volunteers can help as many people as possible.

What to Bring to the Demos

Holey Shirt, How to Reuse Old T-Shirts

Got a tee with a stain or a hole that's been sitting in your drawer? This kid-friendly demo turns old t-shirts into no-sew bags and yarn for fiber arts. Fun for all ages!

  • Optional to bring: T-shirts in any condition, fabric scissors
  • Extra supplies provided

Patch Perfect, How to Patch a Bike Tire

Never get stranded with a flat again! Learn how to identify the cause, grab the right tools, and get rolling safely.

  • Optional to bring: A flat tire or popped tube, tire levers and patch kit
  • Extra supplies provided

Darn It All! An Intro to Mending

Keep your favorite clothes out of the landfill! This hands-on demo covers hand sewing basics: patching, darning, and visible mending for both knit and woven fabrics.

  • Optional to bring: A clothing item that needs repair, matching thread or yarn, mending supplies
  • Extra supplies provided

Don't forget to explore 20+ vendors and nonprofits on your way through and be sure to make time for the Trash Lab. There's so much to learn! Every item repaired, every device recycled, and every new skill learned is a small act that adds up to something big. See you Sunday!
